The Anne Of Green Gables DVD Is Like a Time Machine To A Better Time.

Lucy Maud MontgomeryAnne of Green Gables DVD

Anne of Green Gables is the book that first got me interested in telling stories via the written word. Even though it was written in 1908, I felt a kinship with the main character, Anne Shirley. The author of Anne of Green Gables, Lucy Maud Montgomery, placed 11-year old orphan Anne (not to be confused with orphan Annie) in an unfamiliar environment to her and to me as well as a reader. Nonetheless, the challenges that Anne faced and the methods she used to overcome are familiar to readers of all ages.

I had forgotten all about Anne until recently. Anne of Green Gables DVD box set allowed me to slip back to simpler time. The book had always held a special place in my heart, and so I had never watched the movie when it first came out. However, when I received the DVD box set as a gift, I once again became mesmerized by Anne’s trials and tribulations as well as how she overcame her circumstances.

Over 50 million copies of the original Anne of Green Gables book have been sold. I first read it when I was in school and soon after I read the sequels that Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote.  I enjoyed them all, however, just like your first kiss, there was nothing like the connection I felt when I first got to know Anne.

I am so happy I gave the movie a chance. Maybe it is because I am more nostalgic in my older age or maybe because I am a father, but watching this movie sucked me back to a time of innocence and discovery. I know Anne of Green Gables has been adapted to plays and musicals; perhaps it’s time that I see a live production of this classic and timeless story.
